Could The Bold and the Beautiful's newcomer Katrina Bowden (Flo Fulton) and The Young and the Restless alum Sean Patrick Flanery (ex-Sam Gibson) go down in movie history, being mentioned alongside iconic titles like Rocky and The Fighter? That could be the case, as they are starring in a new Mixed Martial Arts drama titled Mickey Kelley.
The film stars Flanery (who also created the story and co-wrote the screenplay) as the title character Mickey Kelley, one of the first American black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, who gets pulled away from everything he loves and into an unsanctioned MMA tournament. The athlete's dreams of providing for his family come to a halt with a split-second decision, and his life goes off the rails until years later, when he gets a shot at redemption. Dennis Quaid will also star in the drama alongside real-life MMA fighters Renzo Gracie, Edson Barboza, and Mickey Gall.
Flanery took to social media once news of the film broke, writing: "Well... so much for secrecy. When I first heard this story, I was blown away. And I knew I had to share it with all ears... and eyes. Stay tuned... because I think you might enjoy."
Bowden also took to social media to tease her part in Mickey Kelley, writing: "Wrapped my second day of playing Layla from the early 90's -- swipe for some fun throw back hair, lol. Now back to LA for a packed week of shooting."
Mickey Kelley is being produced by Forrest Films, whose president of worldwide marketing and distribution, Scott Kennedy, says: "Commercially, Mickey Kelley stands out by offering a powerful combination of action and emotion that tugs at audiences throughout. We have a great cast that plays this dichotomy off beautifully."
Adds Ali Afshar, who runs Forrest Films with Forrest Lucas and Charlotte Lucas: "Forrest Films is drawn to material and stories that lead with the heart and tell a tale of perseverance through conflict and struggle. Mickey Kelley checks these boxes and even creates new ones for us that will differentiate and elevate the film in the marketplace. Sean really created a gripping story here and we're excited to bring it to life."
