Regular television programming was interrupted during the week of January 16-20 for Donald Trump's presidential inauguration and former President Barack Obama's final press conference, but General Hospital still managed to come out ahead.
Despite having two complete episodes preempted for the major political events, the ABC soap added 111,000 viewers for the ratings period, bringing in a total of 2,764,000 viewers. GH also added 1,000 viewers in the women 18-49 demographic, 8,000 in the women 18-34 demo, and 2,000 in the women 25-54 demo.
The Bold and the Beautiful also had a positive week despite one preemption, managing to bring in 78,000 more viewers, bringing its total up to 3,861,000. The soap also managed to bring its women 25-54 demo up by 33,000, but was in the minus for the 18-34 and 25-54 demos. Meanwhile, The Young and the Restless (which also had one preempted episode for the week) lost 23,000 in total viewers, with a final count of 4,663,000. However, the popular soap showed gains in the women 18-34 and women 25-54 demos.
Days of our Lives was also preempted once during the week and unfortunately showed the biggest loss in total viewers, coming in 55,000 less than the previous ratings period. Its overall total viewership came in at 2,292,000. However, the NBC soap did manage to add 2,000 in the women 18-34 demo.
